John Browning submitted his lever action design to Winchester for production, known as the 1894, which became America’s most popular deer rifle. The cartridges in this collection are chamberings by Winchester representing over 2 million rifles and carbines produced. The 1894 was used not only by hunters, but the United States Military and United States Law Enforcement. Even the European’s enjoyed the handiness of the 1894. The earliest chamberings 32-40 and 38-55, soon after followed by 30-30, 25-35 and 32 Special. The 30-30 being the most obvious, largest chamberings of all the calibers. In the later years big bore calibers like the 375 Win, 356 Win, 444 Marlin and 450 Marlin were especially great chamberings. President’s Calvin Coolidge, Harry Truman, and Dwight Eisenhower all received presentation models; respectively 1 millionth, 1.5 millionth to the 2 millionth rifle produced. The 1894 Winchester in production for 100+ years is no doubt an American icon.
